Leading fertiliser supplier, Yara Australia, has announced the appointment of Alexia Kalinina as operations manager.

Ms Kalinina, who has worked with the company for almost seven years, brings a solid background in science, agriculture and environmental technologies to her new role.

She completed a Bachelor of Science, majoring in biology overseas and started off working in a biochemical laboratory but said she wanted to work in agriculture. She started looking for opportunities abroad and that led her to Australia.

In 2015, Ms Kalinina graduated from The University of Sydney with a Master of Agricultural Science and Environmental Technologies, adding to her Advanced Diploma in Applied Environmental Management and a Diploma in Conservation and Land Management from TAFE NSW.

Her research project at Sydney focussed on growing cucumbers using aquaponics, a mix of aquaculture and hydroponics.

“When I was studying, I worked in bush regeneration and as a horticulturalist,” she said.

In 2016 Ms Kalinina was appointed production and quality assurance administrator with Yara Australia. Two years later, she was appointed inventory controller.

Yara is the world’s leading crop nutrition company and a provider of environmental and agricultural solutions and the leading supplier of nitrate fertilisers in Australia.

Its range of premium nitrate based fertilisers includes YaraMila NPK compound fertilisers, YaraRega soluble NPK compound fertilisers, YaraTera fully soluble fertilisers and YaraLiva calcium nitrate fertilisers. Yara also distributes liquid products such as YaraVita foliar micronutrient fertilisers and a selection of the YaraTera Substrafeed range.

As operations manager, Ms Kalinina will lead a new team of four people who manage all aspects of Yara’s supply and distribution chain.

“It’s a very exciting time to be with Yara, she said. “We are refocussing our attention and resources to develop opportunities that are in line with our ambition of growing a nature-positive food future.

“I am going to have the opportunity of recruiting a new team for our new head office in Brisbane, which will enable us to achieve our ambition.

“My job involves forecasting, organising product to be shipped to Australia and then onto our six, third-party warehouses throughout the country.

“From there, we need to keep an eye on inventory on a regularly basis and look to refine the processes to be even more efficient.

“I am proud to be part of the Yara family. The idea of helping to feed the world responsibly while protecting the planet aligns with my own values. I enjoy working in a global company collaborating with industry experts and developing my skills.”

As one of the world’s leading manufacturers of nitrogen fertilisers, Yara is committed to becoming carbon neutral by 2050. It has already reduced the carbon footprint of its nitrate fertiliser production by 40 percent by making Yara’s production plants and processes among the most energy-efficient in the world.
