Rudduck is a well-known brand in the Australian pest control market with a heritage going back over 100 years.
Managing director Eris Hess said Rudduck is now restructuring its business by expanding its focus to give farmers and the rural market access to professional grade pest control products.
He said coupled with Rudduck’s significant in-house pest control expertise, the rural market will now have a trusted partner to help solve their pest control problems.
“A long-term mainstay of the Rudduck products is a range of trusted pyrethrum-based products.
“Pyrethrin is a contact insecticide that works as a nerve toxin. It is a natural extract from the pyrethrum daisy which is grown and harvested in Tasmania. There are a group of six different but similar pyrethrins in the pyrethrum extract, all of which display some level of insecticidal activity.”
Because of the mode of action, the Rudduck Py products are effective against a wide range of insects including flies, mosquitoes, moths, ants, silverfish, fleas, cockroaches, spiders and earwigs.
Mr Hess said as an external crop spray (Py Zap) aphids, thrips, caterpillars, leafhoppers and whiteflies can be added to the list. “The Py products also act as a repellent so that insects are flushed out of their harbourages before control is completed.”

Mr Hess said the two main pyrethrum products of significant value to farmers are Py-Matic and Py-Zap.
“Py Zap is the only concentrate in the Rudduck Py range. It is a concentrated micro-emulsion that can be diluted with water, solvent or mineral oil.
“Py Zap is registered for both indoor and outdoor use, to control a very wide range of insect pests in household, industrial, animal husbandry and agricultural cropping situations.
“It is effective in the control of adult mosquitoes, midges and flies when applied outdoors in a sufficient volume of oil, through suitable misting applicators.”
Py Matic is an aerosol formulation of pyrethrin for use indoors as a regular automatic spray through a suitable metered aerosol dispenser.
The spray will control a wide range of insects in many enclosed areas. The dispenser should be mounted about 2.2m high, over doorways and strategically placed throughout the target area.
One aerosol will protect a room of approximately 170 cubic metres for a month – 24 hours a day.
