With hotter summer temperatures and sunshine hours, crops and growers are under increasing thermic and hydric stress.

In response to this, De Sangosse Australia has introduced a rapidly growing, unique, and innovative thermoregulator called Reflect from its Agronutrition Nutricare range.

Reflect is a liquid, active nutrition complex fertiliser containing micronised calcium and associated nutrients: nitrogen (N), Ureic N, calcium (Ca) and silica (SiO2).

Reflect’s formulation provides crops with strong solar protection and significantly improves photosynthetic activity.

“Despite it only being officially introduced to market last year, demand is growing very quickly across Australia,” says Kerwin O’Malley, marketing manager for De Sangosse ANZ. “We have seen great results across crops such as capsicum, mandarins and apples.”

Mr O’Malley said plants are put under additional thermic stress with hot weather conditions and increasing temperatures. In these conditions, plants’ stomata can close, and photorespiration can take place.

“In photorespiration, plants release carbon dioxide and consume oxygen and produce no chemical energy, limiting and hindering growth and yield.

“Our team out in the field had identified a need from growers for a sun protection solution, so we consulted with our team in France, and Reflect was created.

“When applied via foliar spray, Reflect creates a protective filter at the leaf surface which assists in reflecting solar radiation and provides the plant with a number of benefits.

“Plant leaf temperature is reduced, protecting essential functions usually impacted by stress and the plant needing to dissipate heat.”

Reflect’s activated calcite promotes the assimilation of CO2 and calcium. Micronised particles allow for easy and quick penetration into the leaf, while the added silica complements the action of adjuvants to assist with dispersal and maintaining granulometry.

“Having an effective formulation, with quality ingredients that plants can easily absorb, is important to us,” Mr O’Malley said.

“We are increasingly seeing demand for liquid formulations for ease-of-use and safety of workers and are dedicated to assisting growers with the best possible solutions Australia wide.”
