Australian resellers and growers will be pleased to hear that Nitrophoska Special fertiliser – the original complex fertiliser product – will soon be available again.
Nitrophoska, which has a strong brand presence in the Australian horticultural fertiliser market, will now be distributed by Nitro Ag.
Nitro Ag has been established with support from EuroChem and local Australian agribusiness interests to import, distribute and market Nitrophoska and other fertilisers manufactured by EuroChem.
Nitro Ag general manager, Bill Terry said Nitrophoska Special is just one of the products to be retailed by the newly established specialty fertiliser company.
“Over the coming months Nitro Ag will work to develop the full range of Nitrophoska NPK fertilisers, so that all the products in the high quality Nitrophoska range will be available to Australian rural resellers and their customers.”
He said the company will also offer a full range of water-soluble specialty fertilisers, principally from European manufacturers.
“The Nitro Ag range of water-soluble speciality fertilisers will support the Nitrophoska NPK product range and provide customers with a complete specialty fertiliser offering.
“Nitro Ag will sell to rural merchants, and as the business grows, we plan to employ field-based commercial and technical staff to support our rural reseller network and their farmer customers.”
Nitro Ag launched their commercial office in Coffs Harbour in September.
“We decided to locate the office in Coffs Harbour – rather than in one of the state capital cities – to support regional development,” Mr Terry said.
“Coffs Harbour is a key regional centre which is well connected via road, rail and air services. It is also large enough to offer other services required to operate a new and growing business.”
With over 35 years in the fertiliser game, Mr Terry is well placed to head up the new specialty company.
“My career in the fertiliser industry commenced in 1982 when I joined Australian Fertilizers Limited (AFL) as a young field officer/agronomist, not long out of university,” he said.
Following another 15 years with the Incitec group after AFL eventually became Incitec Pivot Limited (IPL), Mr Terry joined Yara International where he worked for almost 21 years. During his time with Yara, he spent ten years as Australian country manager and three years as country manager for Yara Malaysia.
Mr Terry returned to Australia at the end of 2017 to manage his small beef cattle farm at Dorrigo in Northern NSW.
“I came home to enjoy a slower-paced rural life however it wasn’t long before I set up my own agribusiness consulting and contracting business and was back in the fertiliser industry,” he said.
“I am excited to be involved with Nitrophoska which is a strong brand with a long presence in the Australian market, and welcome resellers to get in touch with me directly regards stocking Nitrophoska.”
Trusted by farmers the world over for more than 90 years, Mr Terry said Nitrophoska is the original complex fertiliser with all nutrients readily available in one granule, ensuring balanced nutrition.
“Its continued success lies on outstanding physical properties, good storability, and uniform spreading.”
Commercial production of complex fertiliser began at the BASF Limburgerhof facility in 1927, allowing them to introduce the world’s first complex fertiliser. In 1967 production of Nitrophoska fertiliser moved to BASF Antwerpen, Belgium.
Over the next 30 years, BASF continued improving Nitrophoska production processes and quality, while at the same time growing its crop nutrition knowledge and product range.
BASF sold its Antwerp fertiliser activities to EuroChem in 2012 and EuroChem assumed ownership of the Nitrophoska heritage. Nitrophoska continues to be manufactured in Antwerp today under a highly reliable production process, ensuring the same quality product that Australian farmers have come to expect.
