UPL Australia is pleased to announce four appointments to further strengthen its leadership and sales team on the back of continued growth.

Michael Caldwell has recently been appointed as sub-region head for Australia, New Zealand and the Philippines.

Previously country head for Australia and sub region head ANZ, Michael is excited to add the Philippines to his portfolio, as UPL increases their focus at a sub-regional level in the Asia Pacific region.

“I’m looking forward to gaining an in-depth understanding of the Philippine market, which while outwardly appearing quite different to Australia and New Zealand, has a number of key similarities.”

Mr Caldwell has over a decade of leadership experience and roles encompassing commercial management, marketing and sales at UPL Australia, Arysta LifeScience and Chemtura AgroSolutions.

His expanded role sits under the newly formed UPL Asia Pacific region, providing strategic direction for UPL in these three countries.

“An increased focus at a sub-regional level allows us to continue to grow and evolve our value proposition to retail customers and farmers,” Mr Caldwell said.

With the formation of the new sub-region, UPL is making some structural changes to the Australian business to support the company’s growth aspirations.

Mr Caldwell said he was delighted to announce Tim Rees as the new country manager for Australia.

Tim Rees.

“Tim has driven our retail business through a period of change and growth during his four years as national sales manager. He is well positioned to lead the next phase of our growth plans for the Australian business.”

Prior to his time with UPL, Mr Rees spent eleven years managing a large rural merchandise chain, following over 20 years’ earlier work experience in senior managerial roles.

Mr Rees will continue to lead the sales team, assisted by two new sales management appointments in Eastern Australia.

“I’ve really enjoyed being part of a rapidly growing top ten global agchem company and I’m excited for the opportunity to steer that commercial growth here in Australia,” he said.

UPL has also announced that Brendan Coan has been promoted to senior regional manager north, covering Queensland, Northern NSW and the Northern Territory.

Mr Coan has been with UPL for 14 years and brings a strong history of customer service, sales and technical knowledge to the role. He will remain based in Bundaberg.

UPL also welcomes the promotion of Gavin Brown to the role of senior regional manager south, covering Victoria, Tasmania, Southern NSW, and South Australia.

Based in Horsham, Mr Brown has a vast knowledge of horticulture, viticulture and crop protection, in addition to his experience supporting customers in his previous UPL area management role.

“Our new appointments bring together the right combination of practical, technical and commercial experience that the business needs as we continue to build both our portfolio and sales and technical team in Australia,” Mr Caldwell said.
