Leaders in ruminant nutrition innovation, Wagga Wagga based AusFarm Nutrition Products (ANP), have been working with cattle and sheep producers for almost two decades to boost the productivity and profitability of extensive grazing systems.
Known throughout southern NSW and northern Victoria for offering highly effective bloat solutions in the form of liquid feed supplements, ANP have been working tirelessly behind the scenes to offer the same technology in a loose-lick formulation and have finally cracked it with StockMins-BoviBloat Plus.
ANP’s Chief Nutritionist and managing director, Dr Paul Meggison is delighted with the development as it enables ANP to scale their technology and help more producers manage bloat beyond the Riverina.
Dr Meggison describes the development as a real game-changer for ANP and Australian cattle producers.
“StockGro-Bloat Control (ANP’s liquid bloat product) has been a staple for many local producers over the last 15 years, especially when facing high bloat challenges in Autumn and Spring.
“Taking that same technology and successfully presenting it as a loose-lick formulation increases its shelf life, flexibility, usability and enables us to send bags and pallets to any destination in Australia,” Mr Meggison said.
StockMins-BoviBloat Plus is a dual-active, multi-action, palatable loose-lick supplement specifically designed to reduce frothy bloat in cattle grazing lush green pastures.
The multi-action feature of StockMins-BoviBloat Plus is derived from the combination of two powerful bloat reducing actives that work in different ways to combat bloat development and symptoms. Bovatec, an effective ionophore acts to elevate rumen function and in doing so decreases methane and foam production.
Teric acts to control the symptoms of bloat by rapidly dispersing bubbles formed in the rumen and releasing the gas to be belched out.
Due to the rapid onset of bloat, StockMins-BoviBloat Plus’ specific loose-lick formulation enables cattle to easily access and consume effective doses of active ingredients when required, to rapidly alleviate bloat symptoms.
According to Dr Meggison, confidence in the efficacy of bloat supplements under various bloat challenges is a concern for many producers.
“However, having successfully trialled StockMins-BoviBloat Plus on high percentage clover and lucerne pastures gives me the confidence that we have created another effective solution to aid in the control of frothy bloat.”
The highly palatable formulation in StockMins-BoviBloat Plus is designed for cattle to consume between 90 and 150g of supplement per day depending on class of cattle and bloat challenge. At this consumption level, the product is estimated at a cost of between 25 and 40 cents/hd/day.
For best results, ANP recommend adopting StockMins-BoviBloat Plus as part of an integrated approach including introducing animals when full, offering hay, strip grazing and diligent monitoring.
StockMins-BoviBloat Plus is also provided in an ionophore free formulation, StockMins-BoviBloat, using the active ingredient Teric.
