Last month GPA Members gathered in Melbourne for the 2023 AGM and GPA Policy Council meeting.

The two days of policy discussions and events also included spending time at Nufarm Australia’s facilities at Laverton North near Melbourne, hearing from senior management about their business priorities and operations, and work on sustainability including local manufacturing of essential farm inputs.

GPA chair Barry Large said Nufarm’s CEO Greg Hunt provided an excellent and informative overview of the industry’s big picture “opportunities and challenges” such as sustainability, productivity and technology.

Mr Large said the week also included attending the Australian Grains Industry Conference (AGIC), where members heard from a range of great speakers while also engaging in different networking events and meetings, including with GRDC and farming group GrainGrowers.

GPA also met with federal agriculture minister Murray Watt after his speech at AGIC, to continue discussing the policy priorities that GPA is advocating for growers.

This covered biosecurity protections and industry levies, grain market competition and supply chain efficiencies, and RD&E.
